[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Former Seongnam Urban Development Corporation Planning Director Yoo Dong-gyu’s phone call with Jeong Jin-sang, deputy chief of staff of the Democratic Party’s election committee and a close aide to Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, before a prosecution raid has led former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon to speculate, "He definitely gave instructions regarding the situation."
On the 4th, on CBS Radio’s 'Hanpanseungbu,' former professor Jin said that Deputy Chief Jeong likely gave instructions during the call with former Director Yoo, who was indicted and detained over the Daejang-dong preferential development allegations, stating, "I think they discussed how to legally respond and how to destroy evidence."
He added, "What happened immediately after the (raid)? (Former Director Yoo) opened the window and threw away his phone," and said, "We can reasonably guess what was discussed during their call. The public will also be able to guess what was said."
Earlier, the prosecution raided former Director Yoo’s officetel on September 29. It is known that Yoo threw his phone out the window before the raid.
According to reports, the investigative authorities probing the Daejang-dong scandal recently analyzed former Director Yoo’s phone call records and confirmed that he spoke with Deputy Chief Jeong before the raid.
Former professor Jin referred to Lee Jae-myung’s statement during his tenure as Seongnam mayor in 2016, saying, "If you cause trouble, never let your phone be taken away," and claimed, "(Candidate Lee) said this, so (Deputy Chief Jeong) probably gave such tips to former Director Yoo."
He further stated, "How could a person like Yoo Dong-gyu carry out such a massive fraud? That authority could only belong to the Seongnam mayor," and added, "So I think the prosecution will also question this part."

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Jeong issued a statement regarding the call with former Director Yoo, explaining, "At the time, with the (accountant Jeong Young-hak’s) recordings being widely reported in the media, the situation was very different from the usual image I had of former Director Yoo, so I judged that direct confirmation was necessary. During the call, I urged former Director Yoo not to hide any wrongdoing and to cooperate fully with the investigation."
