President Moon: "Korea-Hungary to Expand Trade in Promising Industries like Electric Vehicle Batteries"
Summit Meeting with Hungarian President, Agreement to Elevate Bilateral Strategic Partnership
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in, who is on a state visit to Hungary, held a summit with President ?der J?nos on the 3rd (local time) and announced in a joint press release, "Our two leaders highly appreciated that despite COVID-19 last year, the two countries recorded the highest-ever trade volume. We will work together to expand trade between the two countries in future promising industries such as electric vehicle batteries."
President Moon said, "We have decided to further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries." Hungary was the first Eastern European country to establish diplomatic relations with Korea. President Moon explained, "Today, President ?der and I agreed to elevate the bilateral relationship to a 'strategic partnership' and discussed ways to enhance practical cooperation in various fields."
First, they decided to promote closer cooperation in science and technology. President Moon said, "By combining Hungary's advanced science and technology with Korea's strengths in applied science and commercialization, we expect great synergy," adding, "The two countries will further expand cooperation not only in the Fourth Industrial Revolution sectors but also in climate change, digital, and health fields."
The two leaders agreed to closely cooperate to contribute to the international community's efforts on climate and environment. President Moon said, "We shared opinions on the outcomes of the COP26 summit and the realization of '2050 carbon neutrality,' and agreed on the need for new efforts based on digital and green transitions for sustainable growth."
President Moon added, "Lastly, President ?der reaffirmed his unwavering support for me and our government's efforts to achieve denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and cooperation."
Meanwhile, President Moon also shared his reflections on visiting the memorial site for the Hungarian ship accident. President Moon said, "Yesterday, I visited the memorial space on the Danube River to console the souls of twenty-six of our citizens and two Hungarian citizens who lost their lives in the 2019 ship accident."
