Son Jeongmin's Family Appeals Non-Prosecution Decision on Friend's 'Negligent Homicide' Complaint
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The family of university student Son Jeong-min, who went missing at Hangang Park and was later found dead, has filed an objection with the prosecution after the police decided not to indict friend A, whom they had sued.
According to the legal community on the 3rd, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office received an objection from Son's family regarding the police investigation results on the 29th of last month.
The Seocho Police Station conducted a four-month investigation into the case in which Son's family accused A of assault leading to death and abandonment leading to death, and ultimately decided 'insufficient evidence' and chose not to send the case to the prosecution. Earlier, on June 23, Son's family filed a complaint against friend A, who had been drinking with Son just before he went missing, holding him responsible.

The police can close the case with the non-indictment decision, but if the complainant raises an objection, the case must be forwarded to the prosecution. The prosecution may request a reinvestigation from the police according to relevant laws. It is known that the prosecution has not yet requested a reinvestigation from the police regarding this case.
