Incheon City to Provide 100,000 Won Childcare Disaster Support Fund to Foreign Resident Children
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City will provide a childcare disaster relief fund of 100,000 KRW per child to children raised in foreign households.
According to the city on the 3rd, the support targets are children aged 0 to 6 (born after January 2015) who have lived in Incheon for more than 91 days and whose foreign registration was completed before August 31, attending neither daycare centers nor kindergartens.
From the 8th to the 19th of this month, individual applications can be made by visiting the responsible eup, myeon, or dong administrative welfare centers, and 100,000 KRW per child will be paid to the registered account by the end of this month.
Previously, Incheon City and the City Office of Education provided support funds to children attending daycare centers and kindergartens and children raised in Korean households due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, but 2,758 children raised in foreign households were excluded from the support.

In response, the Incheon City Council amended the 'Ordinance on Support for Foreign Residents and Multicultural Families' on the 20th of last month, establishing the basis for providing disaster relief funds, citing that unreasonable discrimination against foreign children in the same childcare disaster situation could cause fairness issues.
