Renault Samsung XM3 Surpasses 50,000 Units in Overseas Exports... HEV Model Tops Export Rankings
"XM3 Emerges as Renault Samsung's New Main Export Model"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Renault Samsung Motors' compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) model, the XM3, has surpassed 50,000 units in overseas exports.
As of the 3rd, Renault Samsung announced that the cumulative export volume of the XM3 this year has reached 50,840 units. The cumulative shipment volume since last year is 51,749 units.
The XM3 began its full-scale overseas market entry starting with exports to Chile in July last year, and in December last year, shipments of sales volumes to its main export market, Europe, commenced. Additionally, in March this year, pre-launches were conducted in four European countries, and from June, the sales regions expanded to 28 countries, marking the start of full-scale market penetration.
The cumulative sales volume by major European countries is 19,737 units in France, 6,245 units in Spain, 5,785 units in Germany, 4,275 units in Italy, 4,268 units in Poland, 1,884 units in the United Kingdom, and 1,253 units in Belgium. The company explained that despite the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, sales performance has exceeded initial expectations.
In particular, the XM3 targeted the European market with a 1.3ℓ gasoline direct injection turbo engine along with a new hybrid (HEV) engine model that showcases Renault Group’s eco-friendly future strategy. Despite the global shortage of automotive semiconductors, Renault Group supported prioritizing parts supply for XM3 export volumes by utilizing the group’s internal supply chain.
As a result, the XM3 HEV engine model raised its ranking in the eco-friendly vehicle export sector and was named number one in domestic eco-friendly vehicle exports in September. The gap with the second-place competing model exceeds 1,000 units.
Dominique Signora, President of Renault Samsung, stated, "Even amid challenging internal and external environments, the strict quality control unique to Renault Samsung has been the reason why the XM3 has received favorable evaluations from consumers in the European market," adding, "We will do our best to establish the XM3 as the next-generation main export model of the Busan plant and to continue the upward trend in exports."
