The Mokpo Coast Guard Station (Chief Im Jae-su) reported that at 3:16 a.m. on the 2nd, they received a report that fishing vessel A (7.93 tons, 5 crew members) using a fixed net had run aground on a reef 40 meters east of Gwanmaedo Island, Jindo-gun.
The Coast Guard quickly dispatched available forces including patrol vessels, coastal rescue boats from the local police substation, and the West Sea Special Rescue Team to the scene, safely rescuing all five crew members.
Upon arrival, the Coast Guard boarded vessel A and inspected the breached area below the engine room. To prevent marine pollution and further flooding, they sealed the air vent (a hole that releases air to ventilate hydrocarbon vapors) and carried out drainage and waterproofing operations.
Aside from flooding caused by the breach from running aground, there were no casualties or marine pollution damages. An accurate investigation into the accident circumstances will be conducted by questioning the captain and crew.
