[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] A third-year middle school girl who is a national jump rope athlete was sexually assaulted by a college student coach for over a year, leading the victim's mother to post a petition demanding severe punishment and the disclosure of the perpetrator's identity.
On the 27th, a post titled "We demand strong punishment and disclosure of the identity of the 26-year-old coach who sexually assaulted a 16-year-old national jump rope athlete girl" was uploaded on the Blue House National Petition Board.
The petitioner, who identified herself as the mother of the 16-year-old national jump rope athlete, stated, "I wrote this post out of frustration watching my young daughter suffer from terrible nightmares every day."
She explained that her daughter, who had talent from a young age, went to a university famous for jump rope training a few years ago, and after long efforts, was able to become a national representative athlete in April this year. However, she added, "One day, the joy was short-lived as my daughter suddenly said she wanted to quit jump rope."
The petitioner wrote, "My daughter tearfully said, 'Mom, I was sexually assaulted by that coach,'" and added, "Hearing that the coach had sexually assaulted her from March last year to August this year felt like the sky was falling and the ground was collapsing. I don't know how many hours I cried with my daughter."
She continued, "The perpetrator, who was the national jump rope coach, approached kindly and made the young child trust and follow him," and explained, "But after a few months, he suddenly changed and sexually assaulted my daughter. At that time, my daughter was only fifteen and in the second year of middle school. The coach sexually exploited my daughter incessantly."
The petitioner lamented, "Even when my daughter refused, the coach persistently demanded, saying 'You must do it today,' and sexually assaulted her. He often made other athletes train for an extra hour and took my daughter away to sexually assault her. From March last year to August this year, for one and a half years, my daughter had to endure hellish days."
She added, "At that time, the coach habitually told my daughter, 'When you get married later, go tell your future husband that I was your wife's first partner.' Is that something you can say to a second-year middle school child?" She appealed, "At the training center, the coach's word was law. The coach repeatedly warned her never to tell anyone about what happened, so my daughter had to endure everything alone. If my daughter is guilty of anything, it is simply loving jump rope too much."
She also said, "The perpetrator claims that his relationship with my daughter was no different from that of lovers. He says they had sexual relations out of love," and added, "If it is recognized as a romantic relationship, he might receive a lighter sentence. I think that's why he is making such false claims."
Furthermore, she stated, "What is even more frightening and cruel are the people around the coach who, without really knowing the facts, side with the perpetrator and blame my daughter," and claimed, "The director, who should manage and guide the athletes, says he doesn't know about the matter and seems to still be serving as director."
In conclusion, the petitioner said, "I ask that the perpetrator be punished as severely as his wrongdoing," and added, "We request strong punishment and disclosure of the identity of the national jump rope coach who is a sexual offender that trampled on a young girl's dream and life."
