View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] A sex offender with 35 prior convictions who cut off his electronic ankle bracelet and fled in Suncheon, Jeonnam, was caught in Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam.
A (62) borrowed a friend's car in Goryeong-gun, Gyeongbuk, on the 25th and left his residential area, then cut off his electronic ankle bracelet and ran away in Suncheon-si, Jeonnam, on the 26th.
On the 27th, he was spotted taking the Saemaeul train from Boseong-gun, Jeonnam, to Jinju-si, Gyeongnam. The Changwon Probation Office distributed wanted posters and requested police assistance to track A.
The Gyeongnam Police Agency announced that A was arrested at Hamyang Intercity Bus Terminal at around 1:37 p.m. on the 28th after a stakeout.
The police followed CCTV footage confirming that A moved from Jinju to Hamyang, stayed at a motel, and after staking out the Hamyang Intercity Bus Terminal, arrested him.
A is known to have 35 prior convictions, including violation of the Juvenile Protection Act (statutory rape of a minor).
