Gwangju 'Entering Stable Phase Again'... Only 3 Confirmed Cases as of 2 PM
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Amid the occurrence of double-digit COVID-19 cases for two consecutive days in the Gwangju area, there is hope that the situation may stabilize again as the number of confirmed cases stood at 3 as of 2 PM on the 21st.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City, 3 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 on that day and were classified as Gwangju cases 5288 to 5290. Among them, 2 were confirmed cases from other cities and provinces, and 1 is under investigation due to symptoms.
Of the 2 confirmed cases from other cities and provinces, one is a Thai national who is an acquaintance of a confirmed case in Suwon. The other was confirmed positive after overlapping movements at a restaurant with case 5263, who is a close contact of a confirmed case in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The one under investigation due to symptoms currently has an unknown infection route, and health authorities are conducting an in-depth epidemiological investigation.
Meanwhile, case 5263, classified as a close contact of the confirmed case in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, was confirmed positive on the 19th. Following an investigation of case 5236’s movements, additional confirmed cases were found at two restaurants, leading to testing of 166 people.
As a result, a total of 7 people, including the index patient, tested positive, 21 were placed under self-quarantine, and 10 were subject to passive monitoring.
Health authorities plan to conduct in-depth epidemiological investigations using CCTV and GPS and will reclassify contacts if additional cases occur.
