TES stands for Technology, Engineering, and System & Solution, representing CJ Logistics' core technologies.
The CJ Logistics TES Logistics Technology Research Institute announced the ‘TES Core Technology Master Plan’ at the ‘TES Innovation Center’ located in Dongtan, Gyeonggi-do, the day before. Key executives, including CEO Shin-ho Kang, attended the event.
The TES Logistics Technology Research Institute stated, “We will strengthen the competitiveness of core businesses and lead logistics innovation based on robot, AI, and big data technologies,” and revealed the ‘12 Core Technologies and Master Plan.’ They also spent time operating equipment installed on-site, such as AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots), and piece picking systems.
At the event, the direction of research and development was presented as ‘Robots work like humans. We see the future through data. Systems lead people.’ The ‘TES 12 Core Technologies Introduction and Master Plan’ was shared with all employees via online live broadcast.
Subsequently, the technology development fields were divided into three categories: T, E, and S, with young leaders responsible for each field directly introducing the technologies and demonstrating the equipment. The technology field demonstrated transfer automation, loading/unloading automation, and packaging technology; the engineering field showcased simulation-based center optimization and big data analysis-based pricing technology; and the system & solution field introduced AI and big data platforms, e-commerce and parcel delivery systems, and equipment control systems.
Among these, AGVs and AMRs are automated transport robots that automatically deliver products or pallets to workers within logistics centers. CJ Logistics plans to deploy about 170 units to major logistics centers such as Gonjiam and Gunpo by the end of the year. The piece picking system is equipment where a robotic arm picks up individual items and automatically places them on conveyors or into boxes; it is currently being tested at the Deokpyeong Logistics Center. Additionally, eco-friendly logistics materials such as environmentally friendly cooling containers and automatic packaging one-touch boxes will be gradually introduced on-site starting in 2022.
Kim Kyunghoon, head of the TES Logistics Technology Research Institute, said, “By strengthening core areas such as on-site automation using robot technology, continuous operation optimization based on AI and big data, and building DT (digital transformation)-based systems, we will advance as the top logistics research institute in Korea.”
