Sancheong-gun, Mass Vaccination of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Preventive Vaccine in the Second Half of the Year
100,559 Heads Including Hanwoo and Pigs
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 20th that it will conduct regular foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccination for 104,559 livestock across 859 households raising animals in the region until mid-November.
The livestock targeted for this FMD vaccination include 13,282 cattle (Hanwoo, dairy cows) from 624 households, 88,256 pigs from 35 households, and 3,020 goats from 200 households.
The vaccination teams are composed of public veterinarians in charge of each town and township, responsible public officials, livestock cooperative staff, and members of the Hanwoo Association.
Livestock that have been vaccinated within the past 4 weeks or are scheduled for shipment within 2 weeks are excluded from the vaccination target.
For pregnant livestock, to prevent miscarriage or stillbirth caused by physical factors during the vaccination process, those in the late pregnancy stage (7 months to delivery date) may apply for vaccination deferment.
Small-scale farms are supported only with direct vaccination by public veterinarians, while farms capable of vaccinating themselves will be provided with preventive vaccines.
Full-time farmers are expected to conduct mass vaccination on their own as a principle, but for elderly farmers or those who find self-vaccination difficult, vaccination support will be provided through vaccination teams.
The county will also carry out quarantine inspections for vulnerable farms, such as those previously failing to meet antibody positivity standards, and plans to conduct vaccine monitoring tests 4 weeks after vaccination completion.

A county official stated, “Since foot-and-mouth disease mainly occurs in winter, the mass vaccination conducted until mid-November must be carried out thoroughly without omission,” and added, “Livestock farmers raising ruminants are requested to actively cooperate to maintain a disease-free and clean Sancheong.”
