Namyangju-si, Jingeon-eup Executes 'Administrative Enforcement on Illegal Cultivation Sites'
Environmental Pollution, Ecosystem Destruction, and Flood Damage Issues Including Levee Land Loss Highlighted
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province has carried out administrative enforcement against illegally cultivated crops in the river area of Jingun-eup.
According to the city on the 15th, the enforcement was conducted over two days starting from the 12th, targeting illegal cultivation sites formed along approximately 2 km of the embankments of Wangsukcheon and Saneungcheon in Jinri-ri (914-43, 967-15) and Saneung-ri (654-21) in Jingun-eup.
Illegal cultivation in the river area has led to secondary violations such as dumping and abandonment of agricultural waste (including waste vinyl) and illegal burning, causing environmental pollution, ecosystem destruction, and flood damage issues such as embankment soil erosion due to the application of manure and pesticides.
A city official stated, "We have been recommending prohibition of cultivation, but due to continuous complaints about illegal cultivation causing daily inconveniences every year, we decided to proceed with administrative enforcement."
