Gokseong-gun Public Contest Project 59.8 Billion Won, Securing Driving Force for Gokseong Development
Driving Regional Growth Through Selection of 54 Projects in Public Contest
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] This year, Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Geun-gi) announced that as of October, 54 various public contest projects have been selected, securing a total budget of 59.8 billion KRW (32.9 billion KRW in national and provincial funds).
Gokseong-gun is actively responding to public contest projects hosted by the government and Jeollanam-do to promote local pending projects and create momentum for regional revitalization.
They continuously discovered projects aligned with government policy directions and frequently visited central government departments and Jeollanam-do to propose and request projects for regional growth. A county official stated, “The institution-level efforts for regional growth momentum are the driving force behind the large number of selected public contest projects despite difficult conditions.”
Looking at major projects, for resident safety and balanced development, they secured ▲43.7 billion KRW for the Comprehensive Flood Damage Living Area Maintenance Project and ▲700 million KRW for the Early Warning System Construction Project in Disaster Risk Areas.
Through these projects, Gokseong-gun will carry out river maintenance, rainwater retention facilities, drainage pump stations, bridge installation, rainwater pipe maintenance, and situation propagation system construction. These projects aim to protect residents’ safety and property against natural disasters.
Additionally, as a Green New Deal preemptive project, they secured 2.9 billion KRW by being selected for the Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project for two consecutive years in 2022. This project installs one or more types of renewable energy sources (such as solar power and solar heat) in specific areas where houses, public, and industrial buildings coexist.
Following the project promotion in the Gokseong-eup area this year, the county plans to promote the project in the Ok-gwa area in 2022.
Furthermore, leveraging the two consecutive years of public contest selection, they plan to continuously apply for the same contest projects to distribute renewable energy throughout the entire county.
In the fields of community sports and culture, projects selected include ▲2022 Public Sports Facility Renovation Support Project, ▲2021 Cultural Industry Promotion Content Development Support Project, ▲2021 Hanbok Culture Regional Hub Support Project, ▲2022 Traditional House Clan House Utilization Project, and ▲2022 Hyanggyo Seowon Cultural Heritage Utilization Project. These are expected to greatly help guarantee residents’ cultural life enjoyment rights and safe use of sports facilities.
For strengthening public services for residents’ convenience, they secured ▲1.8 billion KRW for the Rural Vulnerable Area Living Condition Renovation Project, ▲3.1 billion KRW for the Basic Living Hub Creation Project, and ▲250 million KRW for the Public Building Green Remodeling Project. Upon completion, residents’ living infrastructure and village landscapes will improve, and street safety is also expected to benefit significantly.
Additionally, they secured 1 billion KRW by being selected for the Population Decline Area Integrated Support Public Contest Project. Through this project, Gokseong-gun plans to establish a temporary residential facility for stay-type rural study programs, which is a recently emphasized educational project.
Gokseong-gun plans to establish a public contest strategy in preparation for the With-Corona era and actively apply for projects. They also intend to focus their capabilities on education-related public contest projects, residential environment improvement, and regional economic revitalization projects to expand their core policy of education.
A county official said, “Our active challenges in public contest projects have resulted in selections that greatly contribute to the stagnant local economy. We will continue to accelerate securing national and provincial budgets.”
