Gwangju City Council Forms 'Council Members' Code of Conduct Advisory Committee'... Holds 1st Meeting
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Chairman Kim Yongjip) announced on the 13th that it has formed an Advisory Committee on the Code of Conduct for Council Members, appointed the committee members, and held the first meeting.
The committee consists of seven members recommended from various fields including academia, legal profession, media, and civil society organizations, all possessing fairness and expertise. Professor Cho Seungje of Chosun University was elected as the chairman.
The term of office is three years, with the possibility of one renewal. Meetings are convened with the attendance of a majority of the total members and decisions are made by a majority vote of the attending members.
The advisory committee will serve as an advisory body to the chairman on matters such as the receipt, investigation, and handling of reports on violations of the ordinance, approval of domestic and international activities, education and counseling on the code of conduct for council members, and monitoring compliance with the ordinance.
Kim Yongjip, chairman of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, said, “With the formation of the Advisory Committee on the Code of Conduct for Council Members, all council members will strive to carry out more honest and transparent legislative activities.”

Meanwhile, the Gwangju Metropolitan Council enacted the “Gwangju Metropolitan Council Members’ Code of Conduct Ordinance” in July 2015, which sets the standards of conduct that council members must follow, and has partially amended the ordinance by adding new provisions four times.
