Why is Kim, the Head of a Neighborhood in S District, Seoul, Happily Working on the Ground Across the Region?
After commuting daily, visits the area twice in the morning and afternoon to check cleaning status, calls community leaders to inquire about recent conditions, earning residents' positive evaluations... Gaining attention for demonstrating proper Dongjang duties
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Kim, the head of a neighborhood office in S District, Seoul, was promoted to Grade 5 (Manager) as of July 1st.
Kim, who passed the Seoul City Grade 9 civil service exam in 1997 and started his public service career solely at the S District Office, was highly regarded by the press corps for his exceptional diligence while serving as the head of the media team just before his promotion.
Because of this, although he is a newly appointed neighborhood office head, he was assigned to the neighborhood with the largest population in the district. This is also a testament to the great trust he has earned from the district mayor.
Kim has also been recognized by his colleagues and seniors within the office. Y, the director of Department Y at the district office, said, “Kim is a model public servant who is respected by superiors, peers, and junior staff alike.”
Kim recently shared that he feels happy every day. After arriving at work and handling approvals, he tours various parts of the neighborhood to check for any inconveniences residents might be experiencing, such as the state of neighborhood cleanliness.
Kim said, “Since the neighborhood is large, I visit one sector each day,” adding, “If I find any areas that are not properly cleaned, I immediately arrange for corrections.”
When visiting his jurisdiction, Kim also calls district council members and community leaders, saying, “How are you? I’m out patrolling the area,” which they greatly appreciate.
Kim spends his mornings and afternoons making these rounds. Naturally, such efforts have earned him widespread praise from residents.
A district council member A, who is also a local resident and former chairperson, told the reporter over the phone, “Kim is doing an excellent job,” praising him without reservation.
At the district office, a neighborhood office head serves as the direct representative of the district mayor to the residents. Because of this, Kim is loved by residents as a neighborhood head who understands his role well and puts it into practice.
Having a neighborhood head like Kim surely gives the district mayor great peace of mind.
As the saying goes, “Being loved or hated depends on oneself,” Kim has earned residents’ love by showing a humble attitude and being a “walking neighborhood head.”
