Baedal Minjok Releases 10th Font 'Euljiro Oraeorae' to Celebrate Hangul Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Baedal Minjok has released its tenth new font, 'Euljiro Oraeorae Font,' in celebration of Hangul Day.
Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, announced on the 8th that they will distribute the tenth font, Euljiro Oraeorae Font, for free on their website 'Woowa.com.'
The Euljiro Oraeorae Font is the final font in the 'Euljiro Project,' which has introduced the Euljiro Font and Euljiro 10 Years Later Font over the past three years. The Euljiro Font, released on Hangul Day in 2019, was inspired by the signboards of the Euljiro tool street and expressed the atmosphere of the space, while the Euljiro 10 Years Later Font, released last year, incorporated the passage of ten years into the existing Euljiro Font.
This time, the Euljiro Oraeorae Font was created to embody an even more accumulated passage of time. The font is characterized by the traces of many years that can be felt in its design.
Baedal Minjok has been releasing fonts representing street signboards every year on Hangul Day for the past ten years. These include old signboard letters (Hanna Font in 2012, Jua Font in 2014), street letters made by cutting sheets on acrylic boards (Dohyun Font in 2015), brush calligraphy on stalls (Yeonseong Font in 2016), and restroom sign letters written with a marker (Gilang Haerang Font in 2017), all reborn as fonts inspired by street lettering.
Han Myung-soo, Head of the Creative Division at Woowa Brothers, said, "The Euljiro Project, which began with inspiration from the signboards of Euljiro tool street, has come to a grand conclusion with the release of the Euljiro Oraeorae Font. We will continue to develop fonts that tell the stories of cities across Korea so that many people can appreciate the beauty and charm of Hangul, leading the love for our language."
