Seoul City Temporarily Opens 'Seoul Forest Equestrian Stadium' for Four Days from the 14th After 7 Years of Closure
Temporary Opening of Ttukseom Riding Ground Site from 14th to 17th for Reservation-Based Viewing
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 8th that it will temporarily open the Ttukseom Equestrian Park, which has been closed and unused since December 2014, from the 14th to the 17th.
The Ttukseom Equestrian Park opened on May 8, 1954, and after importing Jeju ponies and operating as a racetrack, its function was reduced when the Korea Racing Authority moved to Gwacheon in August 1989, and it was temporarily closed from December 2014.
At the temporarily opened Ttukseom Equestrian Park, visitors can enjoy forest interpretation that highlights the characteristics of the park, along with interesting historical stories about Seoul Forest and the Ttukseom Equestrian Park, which holds the sorrows and joys of common people. Ttukseom was used as a royal hunting ground during the Joseon Dynasty, and it was also called ‘Dokdo (纛島)’ because when the king appeared, his symbol, the dokgi (battle flag), was planted in the field.
Additionally, visitors can create beautiful memories in the city with the buckwheat flowers planted on the training track as a backdrop. Buckwheat, a useful crop for green manure to improve barren land, has been planted on the track so that citizens can take photos with the buckwheat flower field as a background and make and take home buckwheat bouquets. This opening event includes interesting commentary from experts related to Seoul Forest and horseback riding and can be applied for through the Seoul Public Service Reservation System.

Park Mi-ae, head of the Eastern Park and Greenery Project Office, said, “We will improve the soil of the Ttukseom racetrack to return it as an eco-friendly space for citizens and transform Seoul Forest into a safe and pleasant park where citizens can enjoy high-quality culture.”
