The history of the police who protected the Republic of Korea from crime, wearing uniforms adorned with rifles, pistols, radios, traffic motorcycles, badges, and epaulets, has come alive instead of the "dinosaurs" in movies.
Busan Police Agency is reviving these police memories through the metaverse, reaching out to citizens. While quick footsteps were good, now you can enter the virtual world and open the door with a "MeTa" step.
Busan Police has opened the "Busan Police History Exhibition Hall," which had become unfamiliar to visitors due to COVID-19, online. The "Cyber History Exhibition Hall," realized as a 3D metaverse, has opened its doors.
The Busan Police History Exhibition Hall was established 20 years ago in 2001 on the second floor of the police station building and is still in operation.
It is organized into five sections: police history, replicas, equipment, literature, and more. There are as many as 1,135 exhibits. Before COVID-19 interfered with visits, it was a popular "tourist attraction" in Busan, drawing about 13,000 visitors annually.
The newly opened "Cyber History Exhibition Hall" boasts sophisticated 3D technology that allows visitors to read even the smallest letters clearly, designed to give the illusion of actually visiting in person, according to the police.
Various videos are linked in each section, providing diverse and engaging content about the police.
Jung Seok-mo, Public Relations Officer of Busan Police Agency, said, "I came up with the idea after seeing metaverse technology being introduced in various fields as part of the government's recent New Deal policy," explaining the reason for opening the Cyber History Exhibition Hall.
