Gwangju City to Begin Swimming Pool Facility Renovations Starting First Half of Next Year
Selected for the "Public Sports Facility Renovation Support Project" Competition
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Work-Family Balance Support Headquarters announced on the 6th that it has been selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's '2022 Public Sports Facility Renovation Support Project' and will begin renovating the swimming pool facilities from the first half of next year.
The headquarters' indoor swimming pool located in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, is an indoor sports facility with 5 lanes in the adult pool and 2 lanes in the children's pool (total area 1093㎡). Since its opening in August 2001, it has been a representative swimming pool in Seo-gu used by about 100,000 people annually and has been greatly loved by local residents.
Currently, due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and frequent breakdowns caused by aging facilities, the pool is closed. With the selection for this renovation project, it is expected that obstacles to operation such as operator selection and facility safety issues will be resolved.
The renovation will begin in January next year, aiming to reopen within the first half of the year, and will include major works such as ▲establishing an automatic system ▲replacing old mechanical and electrical equipment ▲replacing locker rooms and pool tiles ▲renovating men's and women's shower rooms.
Additionally, the operator will be selected through a user selection announcement scheduled for this month.
