Honam University Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences Holds 2nd Colloquium
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Honam University (President Park Sang-chul) Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences announced on the 6th that it held the 2nd colloquium as part of the 3rd year project of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences Support Project (Principal Investigator Yoon Young) the day before.
The colloquium, held online, was attended by Honam University undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty members. Professor Lee Chang-bong of Yonsei University was invited to give a session titled “How Has ‘Literacy’ Been Studied?” which explored how ‘literacy’ has been analyzed in academic databases.
Professor Lee examined the concept of ‘literacy,’ an essential competency to solve problems in a hyperconnected society, and introduced research trends on ‘literacy’ and thematic patterns in academic databases through a language data analysis method called ‘text mining.’
He concluded the lecture by emphasizing the need for expanded research that applies keyword network analysis and topic modeling?techniques mainly used in social sciences?to the field of humanities research as well.
Honam University, the only private university in the Honam region selected for the Korea Research Foundation’s ‘Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences Support Project,’ has been conducting research since 2019 with government funding under the theme “Liberal Arts Education Research for Cultivating Humanities Literacy Competence in a Hyperconnected Society.” This year, it plans to hold a total of six colloquia by inviting literacy researchers from various fields.
