"Found a Bug in Chicken" Complaint Met with Refund and Dismissal?…Is It Arrogance or Abuse of Power?
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A story has sparked controversy after a customer complained about finding a bug in their ordered chicken, only for the store owner to respond arrogantly, saying, "Isn't it enough to just refund you?"
On the 4th, an online community, Bobae Dream, featured a post titled "Found a cockroach in my chicken."
The author, Mr. A, shared, "I've experienced all sorts of things in life," and recounted the incident. Mr. A said, "I wanted to eat chicken after a long time, so I ordered it using a gifticon. While eating with my children, a bug came out of the chicken," attaching photos and videos of the chicken.
The video showed Mr. A calling the chicken store directly to complain. When Mr. A reported the bug in the chicken, the store owner demanded that he bring the chicken back.
When Mr. A brought the leftover chicken, the owner said, "This is not a cockroach but a type of flying insect," and added, "We are refrying it, so please wait."
However, Mr. A said, "I feel nauseated and can't eat it again," and requested a refund. The owner returned 18,000 won in cash.
While refunding, the owner reportedly said, "I'm sorry, but this is not a cockroach. It obviously flew in," according to Mr. A.
Mr. A then asked to return the chicken with the bug and said he would complain directly to the headquarters, but the store responded, "It's a busy time now, and since you already got a refund, just leave. Please go."
Mr. A wrote, "I am so shocked and feel wronged. What I personally wanted was a sincere apology and politeness," adding, "If they had just sent a text or called to apologize after closing, I would have let it go, but because of such despicable people, I am so angry that I can't sleep and am still fuming at this hour."
He continued, "In my life, among self-employed people who have made mistakes with food, I have never encountered such an arrogant attitude," and "They act as if everyone in the community knows them and boast about it, which I can't get used to. Honestly, I feel like the criminal here," he lamented.
The original post by Mr. A has since been deleted.
Meanwhile, netizens who read this story criticized the owner's arrogant attitude. One netizen said, "The type of bug doesn't matter; the problem is that a bug was found," and added, "If they had properly apologized, it would have been fine, but the store's response was wrong."
