Prosecutors Do Not Indict Park Young-sun on Suspicion of Lying About "Disposing Tokyo Apartment"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Former Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun, who was accused of publicly announcing false information that she had disposed of a Tokyo apartment under her spouse's name during the Seoul mayoral by-election, has avoided criminal punishment.
According to the legal community on the 4th, the Public Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Kyung-geun) recently decided not to prosecute former Minister Park, who was accused of publicly announcing false information.
During the by-election, when controversy arose over her possession of a Tokyo apartment under her husband's name, former Minister Park stated on her social networking service (SNS) that "it was disposed of last February." However, the registered owner on the official registry did not change, and Park's side explained that the registration could not be changed on the documents because the payment procedure was still pending.

In response, the Lawyers for Human Rights and Unification of Korea (Hanbyun) and others reported former Minister Park to the prosecution for false information disclosure under the Public Official Election Act, stating that "the real estate registration must be settled to consider it a sale," but the prosecution ultimately decided not to prosecute.
