Kishida Announces Plan to Hold Japan General Election on 31st of This Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Japan's NHK reported on the 4th that Fumio Kishida, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president who is about to assume the office of Prime Minister, has decided to hold the House of Representatives general election on the 31st of this month.
According to the report, Kishida decided to officially announce the election on the 19th of this month and hold the voting and counting on the 31st, and conveyed this decision to multiple senior ruling party officials.
Initially, it was expected that the Diet would be dissolved on the 14th of this month and the general election would be held on either the 7th or 14th of next month, but the schedule has been moved forward.
