Nighttime 'Drunk Driving' Sleeping in the First Lane of the Highway, Crashing into a Police Car: Woman in Her 40s Receives Probation
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A woman in her 40s who drove while heavily intoxicated at night, fell asleep in the middle of the highway, and collided with a police patrol car that responded to the report, was sentenced to probation by the court.
On the 3rd, Jeong Soo-young, Chief Judge of Criminal Division 3 at Chuncheon District Court, announced, "A (45-year-old female), who was charged with drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act and injury by dangerous driving under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, was sentenced to one year in prison with two years of probation, and ordered to complete 80 hours of community service and 40 hours of a law-abiding driving lecture."
In the ruling, the court stated, "The defendant stopped and fell asleep while driving under the influence, ignored police instructions, and then drove into a police car, causing personal injury, which shows a serious nature of the crime."
However, the court added, "Considering that the injury was not severe and that this was the defendant’s first offense."
A was driving her passenger car on the Jungang Expressway towards Chuncheon in May at night with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.142%, when she stopped her vehicle in the first lane and fell asleep.
