'Prize Money of 300 Million Won and a GV60'... '2021 Genesis Championship' Opens on the 7th
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hyundai Motor’s Genesis announced on the 3rd that the '2021 Genesis Championship,' the largest prize money tournament in Korea, will be held from the 7th to the 10th at the 'Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea' in Songdo, Incheon.
The Genesis Championship, hosted by Genesis since 2017 to promote men's golf in Korea, features a challenging course including the longest course in the country. This year, as last year, the event will be held without spectators to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Genesis Championship offers a total prize money of 1.5 billion KRW (300 million KRW for the winner). The champion will receive Genesis’s first dedicated electric vehicle, the GV60, along with entry rights to three tournaments: the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open on the European Tour, the 2022 Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour, and The CJ Cup on the PGA Tour.
Players who record the first hole-in-one on the 13th and 17th holes will be awarded a GV80 and a G80 Sport vehicle, respectively. Notably, the 17th hole is the first in Korea where the caddie of the player who scores a hole-in-one will also receive a The New G70.
This tournament will feature top players competing for the title, including Seo Yo-seop, who leads with two wins this season, top Genesis points players, and past champions such as Kim Tae-hoon, Lee Tae-hee, and Kim Seung-hyuk.
Last year’s Genesis Championship promoted the theme ‘Golf Connects,’ symbolizing the connection among players, families, and galleries. This year, it introduces Golf Connects 2.0, which adds caddie support services along with player support.
Genesis operates services such as the 'Caddie Bib Naming Service,' which displays both the player’s and caddie’s names on the caddie bib to honor caddies; a 'Caddie-Only Lounge' providing an optimal environment for caddies to support players in top condition; and 'Robot Caddies' that follow caddies on the driving range to assist them.
Additionally, Genesis has prepared events to thank fans for their support and to ease their disappointment over the no-spectator format.
For fans unable to attend the tournament this year, Genesis prepared a home-viewing package consisting of a Genesis Championship cap and gloves. This package, sold on a first-come, first-served basis starting from the 24th, sold out within two days with 100 units available.
