'Post Office Headquarters Chief Leading Courier Union General Strike' Appears at Police Station
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Yoon Jung-hyun, head of the National Courier Labor Union Post Office Headquarters, who is accused of leading the general strike of the courier union in June this year, was investigated by the police as a suspect.
On the 30th at around 2 p.m., Yoon appeared at the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul and claimed, "The Korea Post Headquarters is filing excessive complaints over a single act of refusing courier sorting work, which is an attempt to kill the union."
He added, "The law and principles should apply not only to the laborers as the weaker party but also to the Korea Post Headquarters as the stronger party," and "I hope the Korea Post Headquarters, which is not implementing the social agreement, feels a serious sense of responsibility."
The courier union held an indefinite general strike on June 9 this year, urging the resolution of the issue of courier workers' death from overwork. The Korea Post Headquarters had previously filed a complaint with the police against Jin Kyung-ho, chairman of the courier union, and Yoon, the head, on charges of obstruction of business.
On June 18, the Korea Post Headquarters and the courier union reached a social agreement focusing on excluding courier workers from sorting work and managing main working hours within 60 hours, but the Korea Post Headquarters did not withdraw the complaint.
