Moon Appoints Ryu Geun-hyeok as 2nd Vice Minister of Health and Welfare and Yeo Joon-sung as Secretary for Social Policy
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 30th, President Moon Jae-in appointed Ryu Geun-hyeok, Social Policy Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat, as the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Born in 1964, the newly appointed Vice Minister Ryu graduated from Jungdong High School in Seoul and majored in Public Administration at Inha University. He earned a master's degree from Swansea University in the UK and a doctorate in Public Health from Inje University. He passed the 36th Administrative Examination and has served as Director of the Health Policy Bureau and Director of the Population Policy Office at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, as well as Senior Administrator at the Social Policy Secretary's Office of the Presidential Secretariat.
The Blue House stated, "The newly appointed Vice Minister Ryu is a healthcare expert who has held key positions in the health and medical fields and is currently serving as the Social Policy Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat. He possesses extensive domestic and international networks and excellent communication skills through his work at the World Health Organization (WHO)."
It added, "He will faithfully carry out the Moon Jae-in administration's health and medical policies, including phased recovery of daily life related to COVID-19, establishing a global vaccine hub, strengthening health insurance coverage, and fostering the bio-health industry."
Additionally, Yeo Joon-seong, Policy Advisor to the Minister of Health and Welfare, was appointed as the Social Policy Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat. Born in 1971, the newly appointed Secretary Yeo graduated from Wonju High School and majored in Computer Science at Sangji University. He has served as an aide to National Assembly member Jeong Chun-sook and as an administrator at the Social Policy Secretary's Office of the Presidential Secretariat.
