Ministry of Science and ICT Conducts Comprehensive 'Launch Safety Control Final Check' Drill with 11 Agencies on the 30th Afternoon
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] On the afternoon of the 30th, the Ministry of Science and ICT conducted a "Final Comprehensive Drill for Launch Safety Control" at the Naro Space Center in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, in preparation for the scheduled launch of the Korean launch vehicle "Nuriho" on October 21.
This drill, involving 11 organizations including the government, military, police, and local governments, aimed to secure safety by simulating the actual launch situation of Nuriho, including controlling personnel and vehicles around the space center, evacuating residents and controlling ships and aircraft along the launch path, and responding to terrorism and disasters. To this end, the Ministry of Science and ICT established the "Korean Launch Vehicle Launch Safety Control Council" in April to develop a safety control plan. In August, table-top and command post drills were also conducted at the Naro Space Center.
During the drill, issues identified so far were addressed, and launch safety control situations across land, sea, and air were inspected and practiced under conditions identical to the launch day. In particular, scenarios such as the appearance of unauthorized drones, suspected COVID-19 cases, explosions and fires due to abnormal launch situations, oil spills, and terrorist incidents were assumed to test response capabilities.
