Support Base Rallying Over Daejang-dong Development Allegations... Yoon and Lee Rising Together
Suspicion Over Daejang-dong Development Unites Supporters... Yoon and Lee Both Rise
In Realmeter Poll
Yoon 28% · Lee 27.6% Neck and Neck
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A poll has revealed that former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol and Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung are showing a neck-and-neck race with only a 0.4 percentage point difference as their approval ratings rise simultaneously. Analysts suggest that the controversy surrounding the ‘Daejang-dong development scandal,’ which involves figures from both ruling and opposition parties, is accelerating the consolidation of supporters around the leading candidates within their parties.
On the 30th, Realmeter conducted and announced the results of the 5th week of September ‘Next Presidential Candidate Preference Survey’ commissioned by OhmyNews (conducted on the 27th-28th, targeting 2,043 people aged 18 and over, with a sampling error of ±2.2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level). Former Prosecutor General Yoon recorded 28.0%, and Governor Lee recorded 27.6%. Compared to the previous survey (2nd week of September), these figures rose by 3.8 percentage points and 0.6 percentage points, respectively.
Governor Lee’s upward trend has continued for three consecutive surveys conducted by the same organization. While his approval rating remained in the 24-25% range until July and August, it surpassed 27% this month, setting a new high in this survey.
In the Democratic Party’s suitability for presidential candidate poll, Governor Lee led former Representative Lee with 33.4% to 31.0%, within the margin of error.
Realmeter analyzed, "As the disputes surrounding the Daejang-dong scandal continue, it appears that the support rates of the leading candidates in both camps have risen due to the consolidation of their respective support bases."
In the conservative opposition presidential candidate results on the same day, support centered around former Prosecutor General Yoon. Among People Power Party supporters, Yoon’s approval rating rose by 6.0 percentage points to 54.8%, while Representative Hong Joon-pyo’s dropped by 2.6 percentage points to 28.7%. In a hypothetical one-on-one contest, Yoon led Governor Lee with 42.0% to 38.3%, within the margin of error.
