[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] In Gwangju, infections are occurring in various daily settings as hospital caregivers and foreign students have consecutively tested positive.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 30th, 32 people in the Gwangju area were confirmed positive for COVID-19 in one day, classified as cases number 4958 to 4989.
Among them, 6 cases are related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu, 6 cases are related to other cities and provinces such as Seoul, Hwaseong, Bucheon, and Jeonbuk, 2 cases are from a medical institution in Dong-gu, 11 cases are contacts of previously confirmed patients, 1 case is from manufacturing in Gwangsan-gu, 5 cases are under investigation for unknown infection routes, and 1 case is an overseas entry.
Of the 6 cases related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu, 4 are of Russian and Vietnamese nationality, and the remaining 2 are Korean nationals.
The one manufacturing case in Gwangsan-gu is of Vietnamese nationality and was confirmed positive after symptoms appeared during quarantine.
Among the cases related to other cities and provinces, three family members who had contact with a confirmed patient from Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, were simultaneously confirmed positive, and infections mainly occurred among family members such as siblings or children of confirmed patients.
The two cases from the medical institution in Dong-gu are patients in the ward of a caregiver who was confirmed positive on the 28th. They are classified as breakthrough infections confirmed after completing vaccination. The chain infection related to this medical institution is spreading sporadically after one caregiver showed suspicious symptoms such as fever and headache and was confirmed positive.
Cases related to contact with previously confirmed patients were confirmed positive after receiving COVID-19 test messages due to overlapping movement paths, or through sporadic infections involving two academy instructors, coworkers, a hospital caregiver in Buk-gu, and a spouse related to case number 4934 who was confirmed positive on the 28th. With elementary school student case number 4988 in Buk-gu confirmed positive, quarantine authorities plan to conduct an on-site evaluation of the facility starting from the morning of the same day.
Among the 5 cases under investigation for unknown infection routes, one is a high school student. A full inspection of 775 people including staff and students was conducted the previous day, and results are pending. The other 4 cases are office workers and middle school students, and quarantine authorities are currently investigating their infection routes.
The overseas imported case was confirmed positive in a test before release from quarantine after entering from Kyrgyzstan.
