[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, the main agency responsible for the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act (Kim Young-ran Act), announced on the 29th that a bill to amend the law, adding apprentice and scholarship student selection, thesis review, and degree conferral to the existing 14 types of prohibited solicitation-related duties, has passed the National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee.
This time, the following were added: ▲ recruitment and selection of apprentices, etc. ▲ scholarship student selection ▲ thesis review and degree conferral ▲ recognition of research achievements ▲ correctional officer duties such as guidance, treatment, and care of inmates.
Additionally, a lawyer proxy reporting system was introduced, allowing whistleblowers to file reports using the name of their lawyer proxy instead of their personal information. A relief fund system was also established, whereby the Commission supports costs incurred by whistleblowers who have paid out-of-pocket for physical and mental treatment, moving expenses, and other related costs after reporting.
