KOTRA Dubai Expo Korea Pavilion Holds Local Promotion 'Media Day'
[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] KOTRA announced on the 28th that it held a 'Media Day' by inviting major local media to the Korea Pavilion ahead of the opening of the Dubai Expo in October. Media Day is an event that unveils the Korea Pavilion for the first time before the Expo opens, attended by more than 20 prominent local media outlets.
The event included a comprehensive explanation and Q&A session covering the Korea Pavilion's architecture, exhibitions, events, and performances. Attendees included Kwon Yong-woo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United Arab Emirates, Ryu Jae-won, Head of KOTRA Trade and Investment Data Division, and Yang Ki-mo, Head of KOTRA Middle East Regional Headquarters.
Inspired by the motif of a "flower blooming in the desert," the Korea Pavilion offers various experiences and exhibition content to promote Korea's industrial competitiveness and culture under the theme "Smart Korea, Moving the World to You." The pavilion features 1,597 spin cubes on the building's facade, a boldly spiraling ramp that penetrates both the interior and exterior, and an open architectural structure. The panoramic view of the Expo site from the external ramp on the third floor of the Korea Pavilion also captured the media's attention.
The exhibition, themed "Journey of Wonder," will provide visitors with a smart experience where past, present, and future intersect, and virtual and reality coexist. Inspired by flipboard-style timetables announcing departures and arrivals at train stations and airports, it narrates the expansion and connection of networks through the evolution of communication technology via scene transitions. On the external ramp, visitors can glimpse future smart cities based on Korea's advanced information and communication and convergence technologies using mobile AR (augmented reality). In the video hall, a large vertically arranged screen allows visitors to take a virtual trip to Korea, transcending the limits of physical movement.
During the Expo period, the Korea Pavilion will hold a total of 1,800 regular performances, 10 times daily, under the theme "Massive Vibe," meaning "everyone is connected." It showcases Korean-style "heung" (excitement) combining mobility and performance using mobile columns that move autonomously. On this day, the Korea Pavilion previewed parts of K-POP and b-boying performances for the invited media, raising expectations for the main opening ceremony performances.
Ryu Jae-won, Head of KOTRA Trade and Investment Data Division, said, "Through Media Day, we hope the Korea Pavilion, infused with Korean mobility technology leading the 4th Industrial Revolution and 5G era, will be widely promoted," and added, "We ask for much interest and visits to the Korea Pavilion."
