Ministry of Unification: "Through a Declaration to End the War, Establish a Solid Peace Regime on the Korean Peninsula"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Unification stated in relation to President Moon Jae-in's proposal for a declaration of the end of the war during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, "The government's basic position is to transform the unstable armistice regime on the Korean Peninsula into a solid peace regime through a declaration of the end of the war."
A Ministry of Unification official responded to reporters' questions on the 23rd, saying, "The declaration of the end of the war is also an issue agreed upon by the South and North in the Panmunjom Declaration and the October 4th Declaration."
He also emphasized that the declaration of the end of the war can be a valid and important momentum, calling it "a trust-building measure that advances the inter-Korean peace process and the starting point of the process."
