Gyeonggi-do Creates 'Green Curtains' at 87 Public Institutions
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has created 'Green Curtains' at 87 public institutions, including schools and libraries, in 28 cities and counties within the province this year.
A Green Curtain is a wall greening technique that covers the exterior walls of buildings or structures with climbing plants to maximize energy efficiency.
It can increase the green coverage rate in urban areas without purchasing additional land, and by utilizing narrow spaces, it is expected to have various effects such as energy saving, fine dust reduction, mitigation of urban heat island effects, and landscape improvement.
Accordingly, after conducting a demand survey last year, the province established Green Curtains at 87 locations by the end of August this year, including 33 libraries, 12 schools, 8 administrative welfare centers, the Yangpyeong-gun nursing home for the elderly, Suwon Convention Center, and road sound barriers.
The Korea Institute of Local Administration, commissioned by the province, plans to complete an effect analysis by the end of this month on temperature reduction effects after Green Curtain installation at the target facilities, environmental effects perceived by building users, and ease of maintenance, and will publish a policy issue report.
Based on the results of this study, the province will address any issues and proceed with next year’s project.
