Imsil-gun Attracts National Projects Including Whiteleg Shrimp Research Facility
[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk (Governor Sim Min) is enriching the ‘Chuseok table’ of its residents by consecutively securing national funds for major pending projects.
According to the county on the 16th, the county recently achieved a great success by attracting the country’s first whiteleg shrimp smart aquaculture research facility promoted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, followed by being finally selected for the Osu District Flood Risk Residential Area Improvement Project, the largest single project ever with a scale of 48 billion KRW.
To secure the national budget for next year, the county selected 65 key management projects at the beginning of the year and is focusing on managing them. Among them, several projects such as ▲Construction of Scientific Farming Facilities at Imsil-gun Agricultural Technology Center (total 10.8 billion KRW / national fund 5 billion KRW) ▲Improvement of Dugi Natural Disaster Risk Area (total 1.7 billion KRW / national fund 900 million KRW) ▲Improvement of Rural Village Sewage System in Hachon District (total 1.5 billion KRW / national fund 1.1 billion KRW) were finally reflected as new projects in the government budget proposal for next year.
Since the government budget proposal has been submitted to the regular National Assembly session this month, Governor Sim Min and related officials plan to mobilize all administrative power after the Chuseok holiday to secure as much national budget as possible during the National Assembly stage.
The county is promoting the 2nd phase of the Seomjingang Eco-Museum project (total 25 billion KRW) following the 1st phase (total 28 billion KRW) as a special account project for the eastern region of Jeonbuk Province in the Okjeongho area.
In particular, construction is actively underway aiming to complete the installation of a suspension bridge connecting the mysterious Okjeongho Bungeo Island to open it to the public by the first half of next year.
Various large and small public contest projects are also being selected, such as the vulnerable area living condition improvement project in Hanam Village, Osu-myeon (1.9 billion KRW), which was selected in March.
The whiteleg shrimp smart aquaculture research facility (7 billion KRW) is the result of continuously persuading Jeonbuk Province about the necessity based on the locational and economic synergy effects of Unam-myeon, Imsil-gun.
From this year until 2023, a total project cost of 7 billion KRW (national fund 3.5 billion KRW, provincial fund 3.5 billion KRW) will be invested to build a whiteleg shrimp research facility equipped with an eco-friendly smart aquaculture system.
Once this facility is established, high value-added projects will be promoted in the Unam-myeon area, which has the Seomjingang Okjeongho with its pristine natural scenery and excellent ecological value, giving new momentum to the county’s top priority project, the ‘Seomjingang Renaissance.’
Along with the ecological development projects around Okjeongho, it is expected to create synergy effects that will generate jobs for local residents and create new income bases.
The Osu District Flood Risk Residential Area Comprehensive Improvement Project is a large-scale disaster prevention project with a total project cost of 48 billion KRW. From next year until 2026, it will invest 24 billion KRW (50%) in national funds, 9.6 billion KRW (20%) in provincial funds, and 14.4 billion KRW (30%) in county funds.
Osu area has suffered significant human and material damage due to heavy rains caused by climate change during the rainy season, but with the selection of this project, it is expected to alleviate residents’ concerns through improvements such as rainwater drainage pipe maintenance and the installation of a new rainwater pumping station.
The county will not be complacent and plans to systematically manage departmental public contest projects until the end of the year to overcome poor county financial conditions and lead regional development.
Governor Sim Min said, “Despite the poor county tax revenue conditions, opening the era of the county budget exceeding 500 billion KRW for the first time last year was possible because all public officials worked tirelessly to secure national and provincial funds,” and added, “In the future, all departments will focus on activities to secure national budgets and will surely realize a successful Seomjingang Renaissance.”
