Homeplus Responds to Union Strike Warning: "Minimal Impact... Stores to Operate Normally"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] On the 15th, in response to Homeplus Union's announcement of a three-day strike during the Chuseok holiday, Homeplus stated that "there will be no disruption to operations."
The Mart Industry Labor Union Homeplus branch announced that from the 18th to the 20th, they will strike at 85 out of 138 stores nationwide, demanding a halt to store sales. According to the union, the strike will be conducted by about 3,500 union members not reporting to work.
In response, Homeplus said, "Despite the union's strike, the nationwide stores will continue normal operations, including the scheduled 'Homeplus 5-Day Market' discount event starting on the 16th for five days," adding, "there will be no inconvenience to customers' shopping."
Homeplus added, "The Mart Union Homeplus branch claims that about 3,500 employees will participate in this strike, but only about 10% of Homeplus employees belong to the Mart Union," and "during holidays, headquarters staff also support stores, so there will be no customer inconvenience due to the strike."
Homeplus also stated that all employees working at stores confirmed for asset securitization are guaranteed 100% employment. Employees of the Daejeon Tanbang store and Daegu Stadium store, which closed this year, have all been reassigned and are currently working at nearby stores. The company explained, "When the Bucheon Jungdong store and East Gimhae store closed in 2018, we also kept our promise to guarantee employment for all employees of those stores," adding, "Homeplus plans to continue to reassign employees from stores closing through asset securitization to one of their top three preferred stores."
