Hwasun-gun Surpasses 80% First Dose COVID-19 Vaccination Rate
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do has surpassed an 80% first-dose COVID-19 vaccination rate.
The county announced on the 14th that as of the 11th, out of the total population of 62,522, 50,068 people have completed their first dose, resulting in a vaccination rate of 80.1%.
The number of residents who have completed the second dose is 35,783, with a second-dose vaccination rate of 57.2%.
The county established a close cooperative response system involving the vaccination center, entrusted medical institutions, county office departments, and community leaders such as village chiefs, achieving the goal of 80% first-dose vaccination rate before Chuseok at a rapid pace.
After a somewhat slow vaccination pace from mid-June to mid-July, the speed increased last month, and the county has focused administrative efforts on raising the vaccination rate with the goal of "80% first-dose and 60% second-dose vaccination rates before Chuseok."
The county expects to smoothly achieve the 60% second-dose vaccination rate before Chuseok due to stable vaccine supply.
Unreserved individuals aged 18 to 49 can make reservations through the vaccination pre-booking website, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency call center, or the county call center until the 18th.
Even if a reservation has been made, applying for vaccination using leftover vaccines through same-day rapid reservation services on SNS platforms (Kakao, Naver) allows for earlier vaccination.
Considering the ongoing occurrence of COVID-19 confirmed cases throughout nearby Gwangju and Jeollanam-do regions, the county has established a proactive and rapid response system, operating various forms of temporary screening clinics alongside the public health center screening clinic to focus on blocking the inflow of infection sources.
County Governor Gu Chung-gon said, "Thanks to the active cooperation and participation of residents, we have achieved a high vaccination rate in a short time," adding, "The fastest way to overcome the peak of the fourth wave is to increase vaccination rates while managing quarantine conditions stably, so please thoroughly practice vaccination and social distancing policies."
He continued, "The period before and after Chuseok is expected to be the biggest challenge of the fourth wave," and added, "Although it is regrettable and unfortunate, please refrain as much as possible from family and relative gatherings and interregional travel during the Chuseok holiday."
