This Year's Hangawi Full Moon Rises on the 21st at 6:59 PM
Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute Announces Local Times
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] This year's Chuseok full moon will rise nationwide between 6:50 PM and 7:00 PM. It will reach its highest point around 1:00 AM the following day.
The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute announced on the 14th that the full moon on the night of Chuseok, which falls on the 21st this year, will rise at 6:59 PM in the Seoul area. The time it reaches its highest point is after midnight, at 1:01 AM on the 22nd.
The time when the moon is located opposite the sun and becomes a completely full moon (Mang望) is 8:55 AM on the day of Chuseok, the 21st. However, this cannot be seen because the moon has not yet risen at that time. The times when the moon rises and sets in major cities, based on sea level 0m, are as follows.
Meanwhile, the full moon refers to the round moon that rises on the night of the 15th day of the lunar calendar. The 1st day of the lunar calendar includes the time when the moon passes in the same direction as the sun (new moon), and lunar dates are assigned at equal intervals (24 hours) from that day. For example, if the new moon time falls late at night on the 1st day of the lunar calendar, the moon rising on the 15th day may not be a completely full moon because it has not yet reached the opposite side of the sun.

Separately, due to the moon's elliptical orbit, the actual time it takes to face the opposite side of the sun (full moon) is not constant, so the exact moment when the moon becomes completely full may be before or after the 15th day of the lunar calendar. These two main reasons can cause the full moon to not be perfectly round. The new moon time for this lunar August was 9:52 AM on June 7th in the solar calendar.
