[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The 15th Gisan Gugak Festival, organized with the heartfelt tribute of master musicians of Korean traditional music to their teacher Gisan Park Heon-bong, concluded successfully.
Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 13th that the Gisan Gugak Festival’s Gugak Hanmadang held on the evening of the 12th at the Gisan Gugakdang in Namsa Yedamchon, Danseong-myeon, ended with great enthusiasm from the audience.
At this Gisan Gugak Festival Gugak Hanmadang, masters of Korean traditional music who either directly studied under Gisan Park Heon-bong or attended the Gugak arts school founded by him and his fellow musicians (currently the National High School of Traditional Arts) took the stage.
Under the theme “Singing Gisan,” the performance featured Professor Park Beom-hoon, Dongguk University Chair Professor, who conducted the Central Gugak Orchestra and composed all the pieces, including a newly created premiere piece for this event.
The first performance was premiered by Gugak artist Kim Seong-nyeo.
The finale of the performance was adorned by “Sancheong Arirang,” with lyrics by the late Hong Yun-sik and composition by Park Beom-hoon. All performers closed the show by singing “Song of Gugak,” written by Park Heon-bong, alongside Sancheong Arirang.
The performers said, “Everyone gathered here today are Gugak artists who have quietly practiced the teachings of Gisan Park Heon-bong based on their connection with him,” and added, “We hope that Sancheong will rise as the center of our national music through the Gisan Gugak Festival.”
