Chungnam Seeks to Revitalize Regional Finance with 'Establishment of Chungcheong Regional Bank'
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is exploring ways to revitalize regional finance through the establishment of a local bank in the Chungcheong area.
On the 14th, the province announced that it held the "2nd Emergency Economic Situation Inspection Meeting" on the previous day at the Yesan Splash Resort to discuss this matter.
The meeting was organized to diagnose the current regional economic situation and seek countermeasures for major economic issues, including the establishment of a local bank in the Chungcheong area.
In particular, the establishment of a Chungcheong local bank emerged as a key topic at this meeting. First, Bang Man-gi, director of the Chungnam Economic Trend Analysis Center, emphasized the necessity and role of establishing a local bank in his presentation titled "Measures to Revitalize Regional Finance in Chungcheong Area - Plans for a Specialized Chungcheong Local Bank."
Director Bang suggested, "To improve financial accessibility for small and medium-sized enterprises and revitalize the regional economy through local reinvestment, thereby addressing the polarization of the financial market, the establishment of a Chungcheong local bank is crucial."
Additionally, Yang Seung-jo, Governor of Chungnam Province, stated, "Since the exit of Chungcheong Bank in 1998 and Chungbuk Bank in 1999, local banks that coexist with the regional economy and walk alongside local residents have virtually disappeared in the Chungcheong area. As a result, the outflow of regional capital has accelerated, and the accessibility of financial services for local residents has deteriorated."
He added, "Even now, local finance is needed as a pillar to support a virtuous cycle structure of the regional economy in Chungcheong. The province will promote the establishment of a Chungcheong local bank as a new flagship project of the 7th elected administration, linking Chungnam Innovation City, the direct connection of the Seohae Line KTX, and the construction of Chungnam Civil Airport, to find a breakthrough in the emergency economic situation caused by COVID-19 and other challenges."
Furthermore, the meeting identified key regional economic issues through the current regional economic situation diagnosis and analysis, including ▲household loan trends ▲changes in business operators in the top 100 daily life-related industries ▲performance analysis of listed companies based in Chungnam ▲changes following Japan's export regulations.
