UN: "Taliban Use Live Ammunition on Protesters... At Least 4 Dead"
Field Reporters Also Threatened
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reported on the 10th (local time) that the Taliban violently responded to protesters in Afghanistan with live ammunition, whips, and clubs, resulting in at least four deaths.
According to major foreign media, the office pointed out that since the Taliban took power in mid-last month, the crackdown on protests in Afghanistan has become increasingly violent.
At a briefing held in Geneva, spokesperson Lavina Shamdassani said, "We have witnessed the Taliban's response becoming harsher," adding, "It has been recorded that at least four protesters have died due to gunfire." The deaths of protesters were explained as occurring during attempts to disperse the protests by firing shots.
