Courier Union: "Management Imposed Workplace Lockout Over Demand for Sorting Staff Deployment... Workers Forced onto the Streets"
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The National Courier Workers' Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) Service Federation announced on the 10th that "Logen Busan Sahaji Branch closed the workplace in response to demands for the deployment of sorting personnel," urging "Logen headquarters to resolve the issue and implement the social agreement."
The Courier Workers' Union held a press conference in front of Logen Courier headquarters in Yongsan-gu on the same day, stating, "Due to the unilateral workplace closure of the Sahaji Branch on the 6th, workers were driven onto the streets during the Chuseok peak season."
The union claimed that according to the social agreement in the courier industry, Logen Courier was supposed to deploy sorting personnel starting from the 1st of this month, but the Sahaji Branch did not properly deploy sorting personnel, causing work to not proceed smoothly on that day.
Through negotiations between the union and headquarters, it was agreed to deploy five sorting personnel to the Sahaji Branch by the 8th of this month and an additional five by the 15th. The union began normal attendance and delivery from the 2nd, but due to backlog, deliveries were only completed on the 4th.

However, the company claimed that "the union deliberately did not deliver, causing food spoilage," which the union refuted. The union explained, "We did not refuse food deliveries nor block them. Only food that was not unloaded on the 1st was not delivered under agreement with headquarters due to potential safety issues." They added, "Although no industrial action was taken, the Sahaji Branch's aggressive workplace closure constitutes unfair labor practice," and demanded, "Logen Courier headquarters, which failed to take active measures to deploy sorting personnel, must resolve this issue."
