The 68th Anniversary Ceremony of 'Coast Guard Day'... "Establishing a Future-Oriented Maritime Security System"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The 68th anniversary 'Coast Guard Day' ceremony was held on the morning of the 10th at the Yeosu Coast Guard Education Center in Jeollanam-do.
The event was held without any external attendees due to COVID-19 prevention measures, with only about 40 Coast Guard personnel including Commissioner Kim Honghee, awardees, and trainees attending.
The Coast Guard Education Center is the only comprehensive maritime education facility in the country, where new police officers and public officials receive training before being deployed to the field. The ceremony was held here to symbolize a return to the basics and a commitment to protecting the lives and property of the people.
During the ceremony, the newly revised charter, updated for the first time in 22 years, was read aloud. A total of 40 individuals and 4 organizations received government awards, including Chief Inspector Ryu Yonghwan, who was recognized for his meritorious service related to Coast Guard equipment and awarded the Green Stripes Order of Service Merit.
President Moon Jaein, in a congratulatory video, said, "I am very proud that under our government, the Coast Guard has been revived and reborn as a strong and competent organization," and urged, "I hope the Coast Guard becomes a steadfast partner of the people leading the dream of a maritime powerhouse."
Commissioner Kim Honghee also stated in his commemorative speech, "It was thanks to the dedication and efforts of employees who quietly carried out innovative policies that we were able to be reborn as an organization for the people," adding, "We will firmly establish a future-oriented maritime security system and create a rational organizational culture through communication and harmony."
