Hwasun-gun Launches Special Guidance and Crackdown on Origin Labeling for Chuseok Holiday
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeonnam Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 8th that it will conduct special guidance and crackdowns on origin labeling until the 17th ahead of Chuseok.
The county plans to form a joint inspection team with the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service (Hwasun Office) to focus on guidance and crackdowns on violations of origin labeling ahead of Chuseok.
The main targets of the crackdown are agricultural product sales and processing companies, traditional markets, and restaurants. They will focus on whether origin labeling is implemented, the appropriateness of the labeling method, whether there are false or confusing labels regarding origin, and acts of disguising or mixing origins in sales.
In addition, to establish consumer trust, distribution order, and promote origin labeling during Chuseok, a campaign using promotional materials and banners will also be promoted.
If the origin is not labeled, a fine of up to 10 million won will be imposed, and if falsely labeled, imprisonment of up to 7 years or a fine of up to 100 million won will be imposed.
A county official said, “We will thoroughly crack down on violations of origin labeling to protect agricultural products honestly produced by farmers and provide safer food to consumers.”
