Apple to Unveil 'iPhone 13' on the 14th
Official Release Expected on the 24th
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Apple will unveil its new smartphone series, the 'iPhone 13', next week.
On the 7th (local time), Apple announced through invitations sent to the media that it will hold a special event at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, USA, on the 14th and will livestream the event.
Industry insiders expect that Apple will reveal the next-generation iPhone 13 at this event, following its usual practice of announcing new iPhones in September. The iPhone 13 series is expected to consist of four models: the base model iPhone 13, the 'iPhone 13 Mini', the 'iPhone 13 Pro', and the 'iPhone 13 Pro Max', similar to the previous generation.
The iPhone 13 is not expected to have significant changes compared to its predecessor. In terms of design, the notch size is expected to be smaller or possibly removed, and there is speculation that it will support low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication functionality, enabling emergency satellite communication in areas where cellular network connectivity is difficult. Camera performance is also expected to improve, including the addition of an ultra-wide-angle lens.
The official release date for the iPhone 13 series is expected to be the 24th. Sales will begin first in primary launch countries such as the United States, with a gradual expansion to other regions. Since South Korea has not been included in the primary launch countries in the past, the domestic release schedule remains to be seen.
Expectations are high both inside and outside the industry that the iPhone 13 will achieve record-breaking success similar to its predecessor. Apple is reported to have increased orders for the A15 processor, which will be installed in the iPhone 13, up to 100 million units. On the other hand, some negative forecasts have emerged, citing that the minimal changes in appearance and limited innovation may make it difficult to leave a strong impression on consumers. Additionally, with Samsung Electronics' foldable phones receiving great responses recently, there is analysis that some demand for the iPhone 13 may be absorbed.
