Seoul City Establishes Healthcare Infrastructure for Middle-Aged and Older Single-Person Households... Pilot Project in Seongdong-gu
Customized Health Support System Established for Middle-Aged and Older Single-Person Households at High Risk of Disease and Solitary Death
Local-Based Industry-Government-Academia Network Linked to Survey Single-Person Household Conditions
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 8th that it will start a pilot project this month to establish a 'healthcare foundation' for middle-aged single-person households (aged 50-64), who are considered high-risk groups for disease and solitary death due to unstable dietary habits and higher exposure to diseases compared to younger generations.
This project aims to discover, develop, and provide customized health programs that middle-aged single-person households practically need, systematically supporting their health management. Last year, the proportion of solitary deaths among the middle-aged accounted for 54.9% of all solitary deaths, indicating the need for health management support.
First, a regional-based industry-government-academia network will be formed to conduct a survey on the overall health status of middle-aged single-person households, including mental health, safety conditions, and lifestyle management. Based on the quantitative indicators from the results, customized health programs will be planned and developed. For example, comprehensive healthcare services linked with private health and medical professional organizations or lifestyle and mental health programs using cognitive improvement workbooks and health kits will be developed and provided.
Seoul City aims to reduce the risks of various diseases exposed to middle-aged single-person households and help them lead healthy lives by continuously and systematically managing the healthcare platform foundation for middle-aged single-person households.
Accordingly, Seoul City selected Seongdong-gu as the autonomous district to conduct the 'Healthcare Foundation Establishment for Middle-aged Single-person Households' pilot project through a public contest among autonomous districts. Over the next four months (September to December), the project will be implemented step-by-step, from surveys to health program planning, service provision, and platform foundation building, targeting 200 middle-aged single-person households residing in Seongdong-gu.
