Gwangyang Yonggang Library's 'Taste of English' Special Performance Receives Strong Response from Children
Storytelling Combining Classic Fairy Tales and English Puppet Shows
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Jeonnam Gwangyang Yonggang Library announced on the 7th that the special performance "Taste of English," held non-face-to-face on the 4th in celebration of Reading Month, concluded with the interest and support of the audience.
The performance was a reading-promotion English puppet show prepared by Yonggang Library according to the special program "Taste of English," designed to encourage children to develop interest in English and reading and to activate library use.
The English puppet show, which lasted about 50 minutes from 2 p.m. that day, attracted great attention from local children and families, with about 70 people connecting online to watch.
The performance adapted the classic fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood" by the world-renowned fairy tale author Charles Perrault into an English puppet show. In addition to the puppet show, exciting English nursery rhymes, magic shows, and paper folding were incorporated during the performance, earning great empathy from the audience.
The performance was directed by "Genie Edu," which plans plays incorporating various English contents, and was broadcast live on Naver Band, adding a sense of presence as actors and viewers communicated in real time through the chat window.
A citizen who watched the performance said, "I was worried that the performance conducted in English might be unfamiliar and difficult for my young child, but it was good that it was delivered easily by mixing Korean and English," and added, "If there are similar performances in the future, I will definitely participate with my children."
Ko Geun-seong, Director of Library Operations, said, "We prepared the special English performance in response to the suggestions of library users," and added, "We will develop and operate programs that the whole family can participate in together in the future."
