GS25 'Convenience Store Meal Kits' Sell 100,000 Units in 12 Days After Launch
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] GS25 announced on the 7th that two 'convenience store meal kit' products, launched in collaboration with HMR (Home Meal Replacement) specialized startup Tasty Nine, sold 100,000 units within 12 days of release, gaining popularity.
GS25, operated by GS Retail, revealed on the 7th that the convenience store-exclusive meal kit products 'Usamgyeop Budae Jjigae' and 'Truffle Cream & Ggan-sho Shrimp Pasta' sold 100,000 units within 12 days since their launch on the 25th of last month, ranking first and second in sales within GS25's own ready meal category.
Existing meal kits required a pre-preparation step where packaged ingredients had to be opened and cut into appropriate sizes and shapes. The sauce for the broth flavor had to be measured separately with water, and separate pots or frying pans were needed during cooking. The 'convenience store meal kit' emphasizes convenience tailored to the convenience store environment, maintaining the same taste while reducing cooking time and steps.
'Usamgyeop Budae Jjigae' sold most in tourist areas (42%), entertainment districts (19%), residential areas (17%), offices (2%), and other station areas (20%) in that order. Sales at vacation spot stores increased significantly during the holiday season, and it gained popularity among campers as it can be cooked directly by heating the container.
'Truffle Cream & Ggan-sho Shrimp Pasta' had overwhelming sales in residential area stores. By commercial district, sales were highest in residential areas (51%), offices (21%), entertainment districts (12%), tourist areas (8%), and other station areas (8%) in that order.

The two 'convenience store meal kits' launched this time received great attention from customers as they are ready to eat immediately and eliminate the hassle of cooking. We will continue to release various 'convenience store meal kits' using diverse ingredients in cooperation with food startups."
