On the 5th (Korean time), at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, USA (par 70, 7,259 yards), during the third day of the PGA Tour ‘Playoffs (PO) Final 3rd Round’ Tour Championship, he added 3 under par and occupied the top of the leaderboard for three consecutive days (20 under par). ‘No. 4 seed’ Jon Rahm (Spain) is in 2nd place (18 under par), Justin Thomas is 3rd (15 under par), and Kevin Na (all USA) is in 4th place (13 under par), chasing closely.
Patrick Cantlay started with a one-stroke lead, recording six birdies and three bogeys. He smoothly made two pairs of consecutive birdies on holes 6-7 and 9-10,
but his tee shots wavered on the other eight holes, resulting in three bogeys (two birdies). Fortunately, he changed the momentum with a 7-meter birdie on the final 18th hole (par 5). He relied on an average of 1.50 putts per hole. Leading by two strokes, he is aiming for his fourth win of the season after last week’s ‘PO 2nd Round’ BMW Championship victory.
This tournament features a staggered ‘Strokes Bonus’ competition based on the points ranking immediately after the BMW Championship. The bonuses are applied as follows: 1st place starts at 10 under par, 2nd at 8 under par, 3rd at 7 under par, 4th at 6 under par, 5th at 5 under par, 6th to 10th at 4 under par, 11th to 15th at 3 under par, 16th to 20th at 2 under par, 21st to 25th at 1 under par, and 26th to 30th at even par. ‘Number 1’ Rahm maintained his championship contention by making three birdies (one bogey). Thomas reduced his score by an impressive five strokes.
