Nowon-gu Allocates Additional Budget of 52.9 Billion KRW Including 13 Billion KRW for COVID-19 Coexistence National Support Fund

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) has prepared an additional supplementary budget proposal totaling 52.9 billion KRW to stabilize the lives of residents struggling due to the 4th wave of COVID-19 and to revitalize the depressed local economy.
The 2nd supplementary budget proposal consists of increased projects worth 60.2 billion KRW and decreased projects worth 7.3 billion KRW, resulting in a total of 1.3083 trillion KRW, which is an increase of 52.9 billion KRW (4.21%) compared to the original budget of 1.2554 trillion KRW.
This supplementary budget proposal focuses on securing funds for the national coexistence support fund and establishing safety measures for local COVID-19 prevention, while also investing generously in local projects to prepare for the post-COVID-19 era.
Key budget allocations include ▲ 13 billion KRW for the national coexistence support fund ▲ 3.46 billion KRW for job creation projects such as the Hope Work Support Project (2.65 billion KRW) and Nowon Safe Jobs (public work) Project (680 million KRW) ▲ 780 million KRW for disaster management transfers for local quarantine ▲ 300 million KRW for issuing Nowon Love Gift Certificates and 250 million KRW for traditional market environment improvement projects to revive the depressed local shopping districts.
Additionally, due to the surge in testing personnel caused by the 4th wave of COVID-19, 760 million KRW has been allocated to health-related projects including continuous operation of screening clinics and emergency quarantine task forces, purchase of automated external defibrillators, and influenza vaccination projects.
Furthermore, to ensure no gaps in care for vulnerable groups, 21.19 billion KRW will be invested in social welfare sectors such as COVID-19 related living support funds, housing benefits to alleviate housing cost burdens for low-income households, emergency welfare projects to support residents in crisis, and disability activity support projects.
In response to the increased use of parks and green spaces due to extended social distancing, 7.47 billion KRW has been allocated to environmental projects including the creation of a green corridor connecting Junggye and Deungnamu, regeneration of neighborhood parks, and improvement of hiking trail facilities in Surak and Bulamsan Mountains.
Projects for residents’ safety and convenience will also be promoted. A total of 8.21 billion KRW has been allocated to road and transportation logistics sectors for aging road pavement maintenance, installation of LED floor traffic signals, additional bus stop heating and fine dust shelters, and improvement of old signboards along four local streams.
Moreover, to expand cultural enjoyment opportunities for residents, 2.36 billion KRW has been allocated to cultural and tourism sectors for remodeling cultural facilities and creating temporary parking lots on sports grounds, and 2.28 billion KRW will be invested in general public administration sectors such as the distribution of administrative IT equipment.
The supplementary budget proposal will be finalized at the plenary session on the 8th of this month after review by the standing committee and the special budget and accounts committee.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, “This supplementary budget focuses on revitalizing the local economy by broadly supporting residents who are struggling due to the resurgence of COVID-19,” and added, “We will also carefully manage ongoing projects aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.”
